In 2010, the European legislator made its intention clear in the following excerpt from Recital 10 of European Directive 2010/63/EU on protection of animals used for scientific purposes:
"This Directive represents an important step towards the ultimate goal of the total replacement of procedures applied to live animals for scientific or educational purposes, as soon as scientifically possible.

Who we are
Transcience’s aim is to support the transition to non-animal research by supporting and promoting initiatives that could contribute to this, particularly in scientific and legal terms. It also ensures that regulations relating to protection of animals used for scientific purposes are rigorously applied.
