This review report aims to assess whether the Directive has met its objectives and is fit for purpose or should be updated in the light of recent scientific and ethical developments. The review takes into account progress in the development of alternative methods that do not involve the use of animals, including those replacing non-human primates. It includes conclusions from a feasibility study on progress in the use of at least second-generation non-human primates.
