In January 2025, the results of Wave 8 of the Ifop survey regularly carried out for the “Fondation 30 millions d’amis” on the theme of “the French and animal welfare” were published.

The survey was carried out among a representative sample of 1,515 people aged 18 and over, via an online self-administered questionnaire.

86% are in favor of “a total ban on animal experimentation when it is demonstrated that substitute methods can be used instead”. This rate has been stable over time (in 2003, it was 85%, and since 2018, it has been between 86 and 90%).

Our comment: The figures show that public opinion in France is very much opposed to animal experimentation, provided that alternative methods exist. This position makes it all the more important and urgent to give massive support to the development of these methods in all fields where animals are used for scientific or educational purposes.
