The purpose of this platform is to exchange information on education and scientific training, in particular with regard to the introduction of training in ‘good animal experimentation practice’ that is mutually recognised in the Member States, thus enabling the free movement of personnel using animals for scientific purposes.

E-learning modules on all aspects of animal use have been developed:

  • design of procedures and projects
  • severity assessment framework
  • project evaluation
  • search for existing non-animal alternatives
  • developing in vitro methods and approaches for scientific and regulatory use
  • systematic reviews
  • ethics, animal welfare and the 3Rs
  • recognition of pain, suffering and distress
  • species biology: mice, rats, zebrafish, ruminants, pigs, poultry
  • designated veterinarian
  • inspector
  • competence assessor

Completion of these modules, subject to obtaining a certificate of completion, can be counted as continuing education.
