June 8, 2023: “Envoyé spécial” program on France 2: “Recherche: Le sacrifice des singes” (Research: The sacrifice of the monkeys)

A report by Nicolas Bertrand for Caravelle Productions. Mauritius is known for its paradisiacal beaches, but less so for its laboratory monkey farms, of which it is the world’s second-largest exporter, mainly to the USA and France. In 2022, over 12,000 Mauritian monkeys were discreetly flown to France under the feet of tourists in the planes of major commercial airlines. These animals are indispensable to science, but to feed this 15 million euro a year business, clandestine farms and illegal captures of wild animals are multiplying.
