  • November 2022: “Replacement: alternatives to animal models and animal products in research“. With this call for projects, the FC3R wished to promote innovative French research projects proposing a new strategy, method or technology favoring the Replacement – total, relative or partial – of animals and/or animal by-products used for scientific purposes: development of alternative or substitutive in vitro (cell cultures, organoids, organ-on-chip), in silico (bioinformatics approaches, development of numerical models) or in chemico (biochemical toxicity studies) methods, replacement of animal by-products (fetal calf serum, extracts of basal membranes, antibodies) by synthetic and recombinant alternatives, use of cells or non-mammalian species (nematode, drosophila, zebrafish), particularly for large-scale genetic or toxicological screening, and so on.
  • 162 projects were submitted. The Scientific Committee has selected 19 projects for a total funding by the FC3R of €784,467. The list of winning projects is available here.
  • December 2023: “Digital approaches“. The FC3R has undertaken to financially support innovative projects that develop or democratise “Digital Approaches” enabling progress to be made in Replacement (modelling, in silico development of digital twins…), Reduction (exploitation of existing results “Data mining”, analysis of large datasets “Big data”…) or Refinement (digital “monitoring” sensors, non-contact experimentation…) in the life sciences. Cross-disciplinary and collaborative projects were encouraged, and particular attention has been paid to data management and making it available to the community.
  • Out of 40 projects submitted, 9 were selected by the Scientific Committee for total funding by the FC3R of €399,990. The list of winning projects is available here.
  • December 2024: “Innovate, replace, share“. Terms and conditions of the call to project: click here.

The FC3R prefers to support high-potential projects that are likely to be sustainable and have an impact on the implementation of the 3Rs on the widest possible scale. In addition to financial support of up to €50,000, winners have the opportunity to promote their project within the FC3R network and to the general public.
