Convergence Animaux Politique (CAP) is a non-profit association whose mission is to promote cooperation between NGOs and mobilize French political decision-makers to change the law in favor of animals.

CAP lobbies on 6 key themes: livestock and food, wild animals and biodiversity, animal experimentation, companion animals, captivity and bullfighting, law, education and governance.

On February 5, 2025, Convergence Animaux Politique organized its 17ᵉ Meeting between NGOs and parliamentarians in Paris, entitled “Substitutive methods: for efficient, competitive and ethical research”.

The meetings were organized around two round tables attended by members of parliament (or their staff) and local elected representatives. These included MP Anne Stambach-Terrenoir (LFI), the staff of MPs Yannick Jadot (GEST), Charles Fournier (ECO), Marie-Noëlle Battistel (SOC) and Ersilia Soudais (LFI), the staff of senators Samantha Cazebonne (RE) and Sophie Briante-Guillemont (RDSE), and local councillors Eddine Ariztegui (PA) and Sandra Krief (PA), in charge of animal issues at Montpellier and Grenoble respectively. Other political figures were also present, including Ghalia Mercier, of the France Insoumise animal condition group.

Round table 1 focused on “Substitutive methods: a field for research and for France?

Four topics were discussed during the round table:

  • The public health challenge represented by research and innovation in non-animal methods,
  • The need for strong public policies,
  • The organization and development of the French industrial fabric in this field,
  • Lack of funding is the main obstacle to transition.

Round table 2 focused on “Animal experimentation: current situation and outlook”.

Four topics were discussed during the round table:

  • The development and funding of alternative methods to animal experimentation,
  • The widespread sharing of negative results (from animal experiments),
  • Questioning the validity of the animal model,
  • Integrating an ethical dimension into researcher training.

On the Convergence Animaux Politique website you will find summaries of the various speeches and videos of the two round tables:
