{"id":3872,"date":"2025-06-15T17:31:57","date_gmt":"2025-06-15T15:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transcience.fr\/?p=3872"},"modified":"2026-03-30T20:33:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T18:33:56","slug":"frances-first-3r-days-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transcience.fr\/en\/frances-first-3r-days-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Training in non-animal research methods: conference in Montpellier on October 3, 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Co-organized by Transcience and the Montpellier town council, this conference brought together scientists who are experts in <em>in vitro<\/em> and <em>in silico<\/em> methods used in medical research or toxicology, to talk about their jobs, their training and their experience in the field.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Many young people dream of <strong>doing research<\/strong> in biomedical sciences, pharmacology or industrial risk assessment, for example, <strong>without practicing animal experimentation<\/strong>. However, some give up because they lack precise information on the training courses that would enable them to reconcile their passion for research with their ethical considerations. <\/p>\n\n<p>The difficulty lies in the fact that<strong>there<\/strong> is<strong>no<\/strong> such thing as<strong>an &#8220;alternative methods&#8221; university or technology course.<\/strong> This generic term covers very different realities. You could have trained as a biologist, chemist, physicist, computer scientist, mathematician or engineer, and find yourself working in a biomedical research team using and\/or developing non-animal methods (commonly known as <a href=\"https:\/\/transcience.fr\/en\/what-do-the-4-letters-nams-stand-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Methodological Approaches or NMAs<\/a>).  <\/p>\n\n<p>Indeed, <strong>most of these teams are multidisciplinary<\/strong>. Exchanges and collaborations with colleagues are all the more enriching. <\/p>\n\n<p>But sometimes you have to be ready to branch off, to leave your comfort zone, to open yourself up to other perspectives&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p>At <strong>the conference in Montpellier on October 3<\/strong>, a number of scientists presented highly innovative technologies and the different routes to mastering them. As each career path is unique, they also explained their approach and motivations, and shared their feedback with us. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;Non-animal research methods: how to train?&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Sophie Pautot<\/strong>, co-founder and Managing Director of<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/synaxys.com\/fr\/accueil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Synaxis<\/strong> <\/a>on tissue engineering and the &#8220;5D Brain&#8221;
