The survey was carried out on a sample of 1,009 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over, using the quota method (gender, age, profession of respondent) after stratification by region and urban area.<\/p>\n\n

The interviews were conducted by online self-administered questionnaire from August 5 to 7, 2020, on 7 topics concerning the animal condition, including animal experimentation.<\/p>\n\n

To the question ” Would you be in favor of or opposed to the public authorities in France committing to funding the development of alternative methods to animal testing?<\/em> “, 70% of those questioned said they were in favor.<\/p>\n\n

There was no difference according to gender, but there was a gradient in the rate of favorable responses according to age: 82% for the over 65s versus 62 to 69% for the under 65s.<\/p>\n\n

There are also differences according to socio-professional category: over 80% favorable responses among craftsmen and tradesmen, executives and professionals, and retired people, and only 60-61% among blue-collar and white-collar workers. This observation is mirrored by education levels: 60 to 69% favorable responses for people with a baccalaureate, CAP, BEP or no diploma, versus 83% for people with a Bac+2 and 79% for people with a higher education diploma. <\/p>\n\n

To the question ” Would you be in favor of or opposed to banning the use of animal experiments within 10 years, to give laboratories time to develop alternative methods?<\/em> “, 73% of respondents said they were in favor.<\/p>\n\n

There is a slight difference in this question between men (76%) and women (71%), and there is still a gradient according to age: 81% for the over 65s versus 70 to 73% for the under 65s.<\/p>\n\n

Differences by socio-professional category are less marked than in the previous question. And there are very few differences by level of education. <\/p>\n\n
