In 2022, for its fifth edition, the EthicScience Prize became the Descroix-Vernier EthicScience Prize.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationdescroixvernier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Descroix-Vernier Foundation<\/a>, which has supported numerous humanitarian, environmental, and animal causes for decades and is dedicated to saving as many lives as possible, considers the challenges of non-animal research to be crucial.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This award recognizes three scientific programs: the first two categories, \u201cInnovation\u201d and \u201cDevelopment and Applicability,\u201d contribute to the advancement of non-animal research in its various aspects, and each comes with a prize of 50,000 euros. In addition to these two awards, there is the \u201cJury Prize,\u201d worth 10,000 euros. This prize aims to encourage promising research and\/or a research team in recognition of the exceptional quality of their work.\u200b  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of the award-winning projects can be viewed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proanima.fr\/prix-descroixvernierethicscience\/\">ProAnima website<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>2025 Winners and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proanima.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250328-CP-Prix-DVES-ANNONCE-LAUREATS-web-VF.pdf\">Press Release<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Innovation&#8221; Category 2025: Dr. Benoit Maisonneuve and Dr. Thibault Honegger, Netri startup &#8211; \u201cNeuron as a Sensor\u201d project\u2014organs-on-a-chip combined with AI, using neurons as sensors in research on Alzheimer\u2019s disease and neuropathic pain<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Development and Applicability&#8221; Category 2025: Prof. Halimi Alem-Marchand and Dr. Lina Bezdetnaya\u2014Jean Lamour Institute, University of Lorraine, CNRS\u2014project \u201cPDAC on a chip\u201d\u2014Microfluidic model and 3D printing for the study of pancreatic cancer  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025 Jury Prize: Dr. Vincent Dani and Dr. Luigi Formicola, ExAdEx-Innov startup\u2014&#8221;OBFAT-3D&#8221; project\u2014development of 3D in vitro models of human adipose tissue for obesity research  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>2023 Winners and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.proanima.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Prix-Descroix-Vernier-EthicScience_20230131.pdf\"> Press Release<\/a><\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Innovation&#8221; category: Dr Agathe FIGAROL &#8211; FEMTO ST &#8211; Universit\u00e9 de Franche-Comt\u00e9, for project: 3D Glimpse &#8211; Tumor on a chip to fight glioblastoma<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Development and applicability&#8221; category: Dr Julien MARIE and Sophie LEON &#8211; Centre de Recherche en Canc\u00e9rologie de Lyon, for project: Innovative development and application of an alternative method to animals in cancer research.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jury Prize: Nicolas AZNAR &#8211; Centre de Recherche en Canc\u00e9rologie de Lyon, for project: NEXPOCAN &#8211; Next generation patient derived organic for enhanced physiology and cancer modeling<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>The programs rewarded in 2020<\/em><\/strong> were :<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Development of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tsar.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/test-method\/tm2021-01\">LUCS VALITOX cellular toxicology<\/a> program by Dr. Christophe Furger \u2014 development of an alternative method that does not involve animal testing in the regulatory field of acute oral toxicity in humans. The \u20ac4,000 prize is intended to encourage research and the application of methods that avoid the traumatic experimental use of animals. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondation-droit-animal.org\/prix-de-biologie-alfred-kastler\/\">2025 Award Winner<\/a>: <strong>Louis-Bastien Weiswald, a researcher <\/strong>at Inserm, for his work on tumoroids\u2014the cultivation of tumors in the laboratory using patients\u2019 cells (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VVEqFxCoe50\">project presentation<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondation-droit-animal.org\/lfda-prix-biologie-alfred-kastler-2023\/\"><strong>2023 Award Winner:<\/strong> <\/a><strong>Alexandra Benchoua<\/strong>, research director at the Center for Stem Cell Studies at the Institute for Stem Cells for the Treatment and Study of Monogenic Diseases (I-STEM), for developing an experimental method that eliminates the need for animal testing, as part of research into new treatments for neurological disorders (autism, myopathies, etc.) or psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In 2021<\/strong>, it was awarded to Vasiliki Kalatzis, a research director at Inserm\u2019s Institute of Neurosciences in Montpellier, for her work on blindness without the use of animal testing.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In 2017<\/strong>, the prize was awarded to Mohammed Moudjou, Vincent B\u00e9ringue and J\u00e9r\u00f4me Chapuis, researchers in virology and molecular immunology at INRA, for developing an alternative method to the animal model for diagnosing prion diseases in humans and animals.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/transcience.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/grafik.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4295\" style=\"width:336px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transcience.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/grafik.png 640w, https:\/\/transcience.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/grafik-300x187.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/growth\/sectors\/chemicals\/european-partnership-alternative-approaches-animal-testing\/3rs-awards_fr\">EPAA<\/a><\/strong> (European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing)<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Every<\/strong>two years since 2014, EPAA has awarded a &#8220;3R Scientific Prize&#8221;
